The Sharon Show

The Sharon Show, Casapinka

Happy Friday eve, friends! I have been straying from my Sunset Highway sweater (though I do have one sleeve done and I have started the second!) and I have decided to participate in my FIRST mystery knit a long (MKAL) hosted by knitwear designer Casapinka; The Sharon Show! I am fairly new to Casapinka’s designs but I knit her Hugshot shawl a few months ago (see my FO page for pics) and I really enjoy her design aesthetic and her patterns are very well written and FUN!

The Sharon Show MKAL started this past Friday. It will be six weeks long and a portion of the pattern (clues) are released every Friday. The picture above is clue 1 which I finished last night. Its been a really fun knit with lots of different design elements including lacework, mosaic knitting, and color work. What a fun way to learn some new techniques! For me, I had never done mosaic knitting and Casapinka made it simple to do.

I am outside of my comfort zone with the color palette of this project but I think its turning out well and my husband really likes it so depending on how this project turns out it will become a scarf for the hubby.

Yarn used in this project is as follows:

  1. White Speckled is Tahoe by WolfyWool Yarn
  2. Navy Blue is Navy Blazer by Emma’s Yarn
  3. Yellow is California poppy by Baah Yarn
  4. Green is Basil by SweetGeorgia Yarns

My Knitting Buddy

Tibbs the knitty kitty

This is my knitting buddy, Tibbs. We rescued him from the mean streets of El Cajon which is a suburb to the east of San Diego and we lovingly refer to him as our El Cajon trash cat. Don’t let this peaceful photo deceive you though… he loves to chew on yarn, burrow into project bags, and steal stitch markers.

Do you have a knitting buddy? Share!

Happy Scrappy

Miscellaneous scraps and leftovers

This is my basket of mini skeins and scraps left over from previous projects, just about all of it is fingering weight yarn. My basket is getting full so I am thinking its about time to start figuring out how I want to use these up.

There are so many patterns on Ravelry for using up scraps that its hard to decide what I want to make with these… Do any of you have a pattern that you have enjoyed that uses up these odds and ends? Share with me!

Socks: Two at a Time!

Quince, Must Stash Yarn

I’ve finished my Birds of a Feather Shawl (pictures soon!) and I needed a small project to take a break from big projects. I decided to learn something I’ve really wanted to be able to do and that’s knitting socks two at a time via magic loop.

I watched some videos online to get me started and I’m doing pretty good so far, I’ve only had a couple “oh shit” moments! And of course this yarn from Must Stash Yarn is just to die for.

Hedgehog Fibres Tweedy

My skein of HHF Tweedy arrived in the mail today. I love the concept of this yarn, it’s 50% Falkland merino wool, 37.5% recycled wool, and 12.5% HHF thread waste.

It’s very soft and it’s fun to see the bits of waste thread in there that makes it a tweed. I think I’ll probably knit a hat with this, maybe held double with some mohair to have a marled tweed aesthetic.

Just Keep Knitting

Birds of a Feather, Andrea Mowry

I’m starting to get into the last part of my Birds of a Feather shawl! This is the second one I’ve knit as I adore the pattern and it’s the perfect weight for So Cal. Yarn is by Long Dog Yarn and Autumn and Indigo.

But I’ve got an exciting project I want to start ASAP and I’m forcing myself to finish this first!

Yarn Haul.

One of our local yarn stores in San Diego announced a few weeks ago that they were closing their doors for good. Its always sad to see a local business close, especially one that has been in business for quite a while. The store has a closeout sale going on so I went in to see what was still left as it has been on closeout for a while now.

I was pleased to find great prices on some yarn brands that I have been wanting to try! I picked up a couple skeins of Shibui Knits Silk Cloud (60% Goat-Mohair, 40% silk) in the color ways Pollen and Dusk. Both skeins are richly dyed and gorgeously soft.

I also bought five skeins of Shibui Knits Lunar (60% Wool-Merino, 40% Silk) in Abyss. I am pretty set on knitting a drapey Ranunculus sweater with some of it and then saving the rest in my stash.

Lastly I found that the store carried SweetGeorgia Yarns which I have been wanting to find for some time. I grabbed two skeins of their Bulletproof Sock (50% Wool-Merino, 20% Nylon, 15% Goat-Mohair, 15% Silk) in Basil. This green is unlike anything I have in my stash and very rich and saturated. Plus the yarn is just so so soft.

What are your favorite brands of yarn? Share in a comment! I always love finding a new favorite.
